Kerala Relaxes Hotel Parking Rules to Boost Tourism Investment

by Angela

In a significant move to encourage tourism and hospitality investments, the Kerala government has decided to lift the mandatory requirement for resorts and hotels to maintain parking space proportional to their built-up area.

The decision was made during a high-level ministerial meeting led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The meeting was part of the follow-up actions from the Invest Kerala Global Summit, which focused on making the state more business-friendly.

The reform will be implemented soon, following necessary changes to existing laws and building regulations.

Several other pro-industry decisions were also taken at the meeting, including:

Amending the minimum entry gate width required under the 2019 Building Construction Rules;

Increasing the maximum permissible width for buildings meant for industrial use;

Simplifying the documentation process for obtaining building permits on leased land;

Recognizing registered lease agreements as valid proof of ownership for construction approvals.
