Calgary’s first hotel debut of 2025 marks a major milestone: the city’s first-ever office-to-hotel building conversion. Element by Westin, which officially opened its doors on June 19, now occupies the former Mount Royal College building at 833 – 4 Avenue SW in Calgary’s downtown west end.
The new hotel brings 226 modern suites to the city, many designed for long-stay guests with features such as fully equipped in-room kitchens. It’s a significant addition to Calgary’s hospitality scene, both economically and architecturally.
“We’re fully booked for the week of June 23,” said Ian Jones, Area Manager for Concord Hospitality, the hotel’s operator. “We really wanted to open in time to take advantage of Rotary International and the upcoming Calgary Stampede.”
Jones noted that the busy first week is more than just good timing—it’s also an opportunity to test operations and team readiness under pressure. “It’s a great way to see how everything works. The hotel is going to be running at full capacity,” he said.
Unlike its luxury sister property The Dorian, also operated by Concord Hospitality and developed by the BPA Group, Element by Westin aims for a more relaxed, welcoming vibe.
“This isn’t a formal, stuffy hotel,” said Jones. “The design and the team are focused on creating a space where guests and locals alike feel comfortable popping in—even just for a coffee.”
Sustainability is a key focus for Element, which caters to eco-conscious travelers. Combined with its flexible layout and extended-stay amenities, the hotel is designed to appeal to a wide range of guests, from business travelers to weekend tourists.
With its opening, Element by Westin not only adds much-needed capacity to Calgary’s hotel market—it also represents a forward-thinking approach to urban redevelopment in the city’s core.
