IHG Hotels & Resorts has opened a new dual-branded hotel combining avid Hotels and Candlewood Suites in Coralville, Iowa. This marks the second IHG dual-branded location in Iowa and the fourth in the U.S. featuring this combination since the concept was introduced in 2021.
The 71-room property is located near the University of Iowa and is owned by Westcor JD Royal Hospitality.
avid Hotels, first launched in 2018, has become IHG’s second-largest brand in terms of system size, with 131 properties currently in development. The brand is known for its “just right” approach—offering high-quality essentials without unnecessary extras.
Karen Gilbride, Vice President of avid Hotels, Atwell Suites, and Garner hotels, highlighted the brand’s strong performance: “avid Hotels consistently drive strong commercial results and guest loyalty, achieving some of the highest satisfaction scores in the IHG portfolio.”
Gilbride also noted a key initiative in 2024: a revamped breakfast offering designed to improve the guest experience while lowering operational costs for hotel owners. This new breakfast model is being introduced at the Coralville property.
With the new opening, IHG continues to expand its presence in the U.S. midscale hotel market, offering travelers more choices and owners more efficient business models.
