The new Treehouse Hotel has opened its first U.S. location in Sunnyvale, Silicon Valley—a place once known for its vast orchards. Today, the area feels more like a concrete jungle, but stepping onto the Treehouse property offers a peaceful escape.
SH Hotels & Resorts, which also owns 1 Hotels and Baccarat Hotels, launched the first Treehouse in London’s trendy Marylebone neighborhood in 2019. Another Treehouse is set to open in Manchester, England, later this year.
The company picked Silicon Valley not only because it is a center of innovation but also to honor Sunnyvale’s farming past. On the hotel grounds, they planted hundreds of native trees and over 20,000 plants.
Nature is a key theme throughout the hotel. While the design is playful, it avoids feeling like a theme park. Instead, it combines fun with elegance.
Guests are welcomed at check-in by a large, bright greenhouse called “The Commons.” At its center sits a 1967 Volkswagen Beetle covered in greenery and flowers. The car has a license plate that reads “Luv Bug” and fills the air with the fresh smell of cedar wood.
The hotel has 111 rooms and suites. Each room blends natural elements with luxury. It feels like a cozy log cabin, but with modern touches. Guests will find custom quilts on the walls, colorful lighting, soft bedding, and desks styled like farm tables. Throughout the rooms, the warm scent of wood adds to the relaxing atmosphere.
