The Midland Planning Commission approved the site plan for a new Staybridge Suites hotel on Cinema Boulevard during its meeting on Tuesday night. The new hotel, developed by Midland Elite Hospitality LLC, will feature 114 rooms in a four-story building located north of the Holiday Inn and west of Quality Truck and Auto Accessories (QTA).
John Morey of D&M SITE Inc., who presented the plan to the commission, explained that Staybridge Suites is an extended-stay brand under InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), with typical stays ranging from three to five days. “This property has no affiliation with the Holiday Inn next door,” Morey noted.
The hotel will be accessible via a single driveway from Cinema Boulevard and will include 124 parking spaces. Additional amenities will feature an indoor pool, an outdoor patio area, and a limited food menu for guests.
Originally, the planning commission was scheduled to review the site plan and vote on it at a future meeting. However, with a two-thirds vote to suspend standard procedure, the commission decided to vote on the site plan at the same meeting.
Assistant City Manager of Development Services Jacob Kain remarked that the site plan review was one of the most thorough he had seen presented to the planning commission.
