IHG’s avid hotels has opened its 80th property—a 71-room hotel in Coralville, Iowa. This is the brand’s second location in Iowa and the fourth dual-branded property combining avid hotels and Candlewood Suites in the U.S.
Owned by Westcor JD Royal Hospitality, the hotel is close to the University of Iowa and the Antique Car Museum of Iowa. The property features sound-reducing design elements, a large fitness center, and a new breakfast menu. The breakfast includes scrambled eggs, proteins, potatoes, and premium bean-to-cup coffee, according to IHG.
Karen Gilbride, vice president of avid hotels, Atwell Suites, and Garner hotels, said the brand has delivered strong business results and high guest satisfaction since launching in 2018. “We have grown to 80 hotels and continue to expand in new and existing markets. Our ‘just right’ strategy resonates with both guests and owners. This year, we are rolling out a revamped breakfast to better meet guest preferences while reducing costs for owners. We are excited to introduce this at avid hotel Coralville – Iowa City,” she said.
Gilbride added that the Coralville hotel will showcase the updated breakfast aimed at improving guest experience and lowering operating expenses.

The Coralville hotel is part of avid hotels’ larger expansion plan. With 131 hotels currently in development, avid hotels is IHG’s fastest-growing new-build brand.
